An old favorite fly fishing show with a new look. Conway Bowman is the new host of Fly Fishing the World!  Conway is one of my absolute favorite fly fishing personalities.  I watched the first episode of FFTW this week and it was awesome.  Conway's enthusiasm on the show is contagious.  Don't forget to watch or set your DVR!  Uncle Larry gives Conway and Fly Fishing the World TWO THUMBS UP!

I made one cast and caught this bass the other day.  I used a TFO BVK 3 wt. rod, BVK I reel and Teeny WF F fly line.  The fly I used was a cone head olive Woolly Bugger tied on a #12 hook.

Fly Rod & Reel Magazine's TFO BVK Fly Rod Review
Written by Larry Offner
Jul 24, 2011 at 06:06 PM

The Summer 2011 issue of Fly Rod & Reel magazine gives a great review for the BVK fly rods from Temple Fork Outfitters.

The BVK rod series (MSRP $224.95-$249.95) has already gotten excellent reviews from a number of sources, not least of which is the consumer. But FR&R is a serious magazine that offers serious reviews, and writer Buzz Bryson is straightforward in his comments after testing the 5- and 8-weight models:

"Summing up the BVK's performance, in a word ... well, I'd just say, 'Wow!' "

Bryson is also impressed by the BVK's weight.

"One indication of weight," he wrote, "I can't tell you how many times I reached for the 8-weight rod, picked up one bag, then put it aside thinking it was the 5-weight, only to find out it was, in fact, the 8-weight."

Obviously, Bryson has much more to say in his half-page review. Rather than having me repeat his comments verbatim, you should pick up a copy of FR&R. Or come on down to the shop to see a BVK for yourself. I have no doubt you'll agree with Buzz and just say, "Wow!"

TFO Wins Best Of Show At ICAST

Temple Fork Outfitters won a "Best of Show" award at last week's ICAST for its new BVK fly reel. ICAST, or the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades, is the world's largest fishing tackle trade show.

The BVK reel is designed to be the perfect light-weight companion to the highly acclaimed BVK rod series. The BVK I, which holds 75 yards of 20-pound backing with a WF-4-F line, comes in at a modest 4.6 ounces; the BVK II weighs a measly 4.9 ounces despite its ability to hold 200 yards of 20-pound backing and a WF-6-F line. The BVK III holds 205 yards of 20-pound backing with a WF-8-F line, yet it weighs just 5.2 ounces.

The anodized BVK reels are precision machined from bar stock aluminum and feature a silky smooth drag of stacked Delrin and stainless steel discs. Equally at home in both fresh and salt water, the super large arbor design provides faster line pick-up and helps the maintenance-free drag provide a more constant pressure.

Conversion from a left- to right-hand retrieve is quick and easy. The BVK is currently available in a clear silver, with plans to offer the reel soon in green and champagne.

MSRP is $224.95-$249.95.
