The Great Sadness: Indigenous Angling and the Loss of Home  By: Roger Emile Stouff

In 'Native Waters,' Roger Emile Stouff celebrated the world of the Chitimacha, created by Crawfish at the command of the Creator of All Things. But behind the glory and solace of those ancient swamps and the voices of ancestral ghosts there was a growing dread. 'The Great Sadness' takes up after the close of 'Native Waters,' and the world is changing, the face of that expanse of home waters is fading and growing thin. The thin places, he calls them: the margin between this world and the next. After eight thousand years of intimacy, the native waters of his people are going the way of memory. And he is not sure if he can continue to be Chitimacha, ‘people of the many waters,’ without them.

You can purchase Roger's new book along with his others (Native Waters & Chasing Thunderbirds) on Amazon.com.

Finally tally:
Chasing Thunderbirds: 1811 downloads, final ranking NO. 1 in fiction>short stories and NO. 172 in all free Kindle Books at 11 p.m.
Great Sadness: 63 downloads, final ranking NO. 4 in memoir>ethic, NO. 2,786 in all free Kindle Books at 11 p.m.

Now, the ranking in memoirs is great and all, but it's a very narrow category and there were apparently very few books in it for free that day.
However, I would imagine the short stories collection was much, much much larger, and it's final position in total Kindle free books was shocking!

Thanks everyone.

If anyone's interested, "The Great Sadness" and five other titles from my publishing imprint Shadowfire Books are free on Kindle today. Of course "Sadness" has a chunk of fly fishing in it, but many of you may not know that there are three short stories in "Chasing Thunderbirds" that center on fly fishing as a plot element. These are mostly macabre, some Native-based works, so fair warning if you're not into speculative fiction!

Also up for free are the two sci-novels authored with my friend Kenneth R. Brown, "Firekill" and "The Thunderchild Fables." "Firekill" has been moving very good over the last month. It's based in Louisiana, around my home waters, Lake Fausse Point.

Many thanks to my great pal Uncle Larry for letting me promote freebies on this site. These free promotions get noticed by Amazon if they go well, and they improve our ranking and visibility.

Thanks Troy, hope you enjoy. We'd love a review, if you do! These free promotions are how authors like us get rolling, the more exposure we have, the more people go for the paid books later.
As of 5 p.m. we have done very, very well:
The Great Sadness holding at No. 1 in Environment>Conservation
Chasing Thunderbirds at No. 33 in Fiction>Short Stories
Firekill at No. 12 in Sci-fi>Adventure
Thunderchild Fables at No. 39 in Sci-fi>Adventure

Sunday's Kindle promotion was a huge success, with four books breaking the Top 100.

The Great Sadness No. 1 in Environment>Conservation

Firekill No. 7 in Sci-fi>Adventure

The Thunderchild Fables broke the Top 100 for the first time and went to No. 28 in Sci-fi>Adventure

Chasing  Thunderbirds at  No. 33 in Fiction>Short Stories

Thanks for helping Kenneth and I make this a great day.

Much appreciated, Troy. I was wondering where that sale came from. :) I too prefer paper books, but since we published in April, Kindle has been outselling paperback 10 to 1. Oddly, Barnes and Noble Nook sales are almost nonexistent. Amazon is the clear leader in e-publishing and it shows. We are working now on getting distributed on Kobo (Canada), Apple products and Sony.
If you're a sci-fi fan, I think you'll enjoy The Thunderchild Fables. It's a very non-traditional novel, told in non-traditional format but not so odd that it's nerve-wracking.
Thanks again.

Roger, my sister wanted to know if you're going to be at the Louisiana Book Festival. I guess she would like to meet a famous author.

Roger,My mom just got done with reading Firekill and she has nothing but good things to say about it...really enjoyed it alot. She no sooner finished it and then confiscated my copy of Chasing Thunderbirds. I just started on Native Waters,it's taking me a bit to get through so far, only because there's so much to think about.I find myself reading a few pages and then pause to reflect upon what you wrote..it's been very moving to me.Thank you...Troy

Troy, thank you so much, and to your mom! I'll pass those kind words along to my co-conspirators in Shadowfire Books, Firekill co-author Kenneth Brown and Chasing Thunderbirds illustrator Gary Drinkwater. Much appreciated.
