Monocacy Bumble Bee
« on: April 24, 2011, 09:27:00 AM »
Here is my Monocacy Bumble Bee in all its glory.  I created this last year while looking for something that was (a) yellow and black (b) durable for the panfish and (c) easy and quick to tie.  This is what I finally came up with.  I lvoe this little guy.  I usually have to beat the river fish off of it with a stick in the Summer time.  They love this little guy.  I know, I know it isnt a true bee but work with me.  It does resemble one somewhat.  I had tried some wing material with it but it didnt last more than 3 fish.  So I decided to cut the wing out of the foam post like you would do on a Predator.  Let me know what you think.

Yeah the gills love this little guy.  Caught my largest smallie on it as well last year.  A 17 incher smashed it as soon as it hit the water.

I came by a few of these honestly in a swap.  Just came in from trying it for the first time
on the neighborhood pond.  The fly has a diving action with just a slightly vigorous strip.  I
had fish hit it as it landed on the water, while lightly retrieving it, and while under the surface
on more animated retrieves.  The wings help make the fly visible in the water.

The fly definitely warrants further on the water research.  :)

Smokin, that is a great looking fly! Make my wasp/bee thing look like an amateur's work.
