Moving to Illinois....maybe? WW fishing?
« on: August 06, 2007, 12:13:02 PM »
I am considering a job offer in Elgin, IL, but being from Texas orig. and now OK I was wondering two things.

1st) What is the WW fishing like up there, is it all just "T" fish and pike and muskee etc. or is there good Crappie and B/G fishing?

2nd) Will I freeze my @$$ off in the winter and go nuts from not being able to FF in the winter? Down here these are some of my favorite times to fish.

Any imput would be very welcome, even though everything else seems pretty good about the job, if I can't be happy with the fishing then i'll have to pass. As you can tell, i know what's important! ;)

TIA,

Carl

Carl,
Yea you will freeze off body parts.  As far as the 't' fish, the waters around me are too warm to have trout year round.  Bluegill is mostly what I fish for.  There are nice size crappie, and bass--largemouth,smallmouth,rock bass, and catfish and carp.
Now, Elgin is a little further north than I would want to live.  Winter is for tying flies and buying rods, line, and such.
I lived in New Orleans 13 years and hands down there is better fishing down there.  I miss the fishing down there.
